MSJC’s JJ/Kennedy Chindi receiving death threats from Rashid of Pangani Police Station

Kennedy Chindi/JJ MSJC’s field coordinator, pictured above receiving the Public Choice Award at the Human Rights Defenders Awards earlier this year, has for years been documenting extrajudicial killings in Mathare. The most recent deaths that he has documented are part of the 22 deaths of young people that took place in Dandora, Mathare, Kayole and Mombasa. And include the killings of Evans Oduor, Bernard Otieno and John Njuguna.

Because of this work and that over many years that often implicates, in particular, notorious killer cop from Pangani police station Rashid, Kennedy Chindi has now received threats from this same officer and fears for his safety. We ask for solidarity for JJ at this time, and for all of the human rights defenders documenting these grave injustices in their community. Above all we also ask: how long will our communities be threatened by known killer cops like Rashid? We need to come together to make extrajudicial killings stop immediately and for police officers to be held accountable for these executions of our community members.

Please get in touch with us should you be able to offer solidarity.
